Justin Bieber crashes NHL Draft to announce No. 1 pick

Justin Bieber made fellow hockey fans jealous on Friday, June 26 when he got the opportunity to be a part of the 2026 NHL Draft.

The singer, who is a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan, announced the No. 1 pick during the ceremony at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

“What’s going on Buffalo? What’s up Toronto? The child in me is ecstatic right now, I’ve been a Leafs fan since I was a little boy,” he told the crowd.

Bieber announced that Penn State’s Gavin McKenna had been drafted to the Toronto Maple Leafs as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2026 NHL Draft. McKenna walked out to Bieber’s Grammy-nominated “Yukon” and greeted the singer and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

The singer also joined McKenna during his press interview and shared with the crowd how important this moment is for him. “Being here is a dream,” Bieber told the crowd.

The “Daisies” singer also promised the crowd that next season he plans to sport a McKenna jersey to a Maple Leafs game.

Following McKenna’s big night, he told the press how he felt in the moment and to learn about his new city.

“Just excitement,” McKenna said. “Last night was a crazy night, I was so excited the whole night and just a lot of energy, but yeah, Toronto is an amazing place. They love their sports, love their hockey team and have so many passionate fans.

“I’m excited, and even when I’ve been in the city before I was drafted, people were coming up to me and asking for photos. I’m excited to meet all these people and get comfortable in the city.”

Well, McKenna is going to have to get used to fans coming up for photos as his weekend did not end with the NHL Draft. He also got an introduction to MLB fans this weekend when he threw the first pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, June 27.

As for Bieber, he just got off of his headlining Coachella set back in April in support of his two albums: Swag and Swag 2 he released last year. Fans are now anticipating that the singer will go on tour but he has yet to make an announcement.
