Joy Reid ends Giants fandom over ‘idiot’ Jaxson Dart on Donald Trump support

Joy Reid won’t be rooting for the New York Giants this season after Jaxson Dart’s viral appearance at President Donald Trump’s rally last month.

The former MSNBC host called the Giants quarterback an “idiot” during a recent podcast appearance.

“I have to say, as somebody who grew up as a Giants fan, I was repulsed by Jaxson Dart,” Reid said Sunday, May 31, on On Sunday with Jack Cocchiarella. “First of all, he didn’t say he was happy, he said he was ‘pleasured’ to meet the president. What does that even mean? First of all, he’s an idiot. What do you mean you’re pleasured to meet the president? Is English your first language? What are you saying?”

Reid added, “I was repulsed as a Giants fan. Well, former now.”

Reid then went on to call back to the viral moment when Fox News host Laura Ingraham criticized LeBron James in 2018 after he called out Donald Trump and told the Lakers star to “shut up and dribble.” She shared that there is a difference between how white and Black athletes are looked at in media.

“The ‘shut up and dribble’ is only if you are disrupting the status quo,” Reid said. “Sports has always been political and it’s always been used as Americana. They love it when the athletes are representing America on the court or on the field. That’s what you’re supposed to do. If you’re waving the flag, that’s fine. If you’re challenging the flag or challenging the status quo in the county, that’s a problem.”

Dart’s teammate, Abdul Carter, was taken aback by the quarterback introducing the president, initially thinking it was AI. However, they have since spoken about the matter privately.  The Giants quarterback has since broken his silence on the Trump incident.

“Obviously, this was a unique opportunity. Being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States, my thinking was pretty simple, in the fact of, I’ve always loved this country,” Dart told reporters. “I have extended family members who have fought in wars. I have two uncles who have retired from the Air Force Academy and served themselves.”

He continued that the reason behind his appearance was for the respect of the military as well as his family members who have served.

“I even have a great-grandfather who served as the Secretary of the Treasury at some point,” he continued. “The president position has always been a position that I have a lot of respect in, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party.”

Dart added, “My intentions were just that.”
