Josh Rock taunts Celtic fans with cheeky gesture as he gets hostile Premier League reception

Josh Rock gleefully displayed his allegiance to Rangers when making his way onto the Premier League Darts stage.

‘Rocky’ was in Glasgow for night 3 of the tournament and preparing to face reigning champion Luke Humphries in their quarter-final clash.

At the start of his walk-on, the 24-year-old was met with boos and jeers from some members of the crowd at the OVO Hydro.

Rock is an avid fan of Scottish giants Rangers, whose neighbours are bitter foes and reigning Premiership champions Celtic.

Known as the Old Firm, the rivalry spans as far back as 1888 and is one of the most hotly-contested duels in world football.

It therefore comes as little surprise that many Celtic fans made their feelings clear when Rock prepared for his pre-match walk.

However, he responded by cupping his ears and using his fingers to signal 3-1, the scoreline that Rangers beat Celtic by last month.

Rock also stuck to his usual walk-on song of ‘Welcome to the Party’ by DJ Krissy, which has strong ties to the Gers’ Premiership win in 2021.

He eventually made his way onto the stage but went on to lose 6-2 against Humphries, with Jonny Clayton the overall winner on the night.

No shock at Celtic boos

Speaking before night 3, Rock was asked if he could predict a 50/50 split amongst Rangers and Celtic fans inside the arena.

“Yeah, probably,” he confirmed.

“Luckily, Celtic’s playing in the Europa League tomorrow, so hopefully they’re all out and there’s all Rangers fans in!”

Rock was then asked if he needed to change his walk-on song choice, but said: “No, that’s just a normal walk-on.

“I haven’t planned to change my walk-on… I’m not going to change my walk-on at all, because my kids love my walk-on song now.”

Premier League struggles continue

Rock is playing in his debut Premier League tournament, but it’s been a far from ideal start for the Northern Irishman.

He lost 6-2 to Clayton on night 1, by Michael van Gerwen beat him by the same score last week.

Taking to Instagram after his night 2 defeat, Rock apologised to fans for his performance and said he didn’t have any grip on his fingers.

Rock then revealed that this was caused by the soap that he used in the toilets beforehand.

But Rock may take some consolation from Celtic being thumped 4-1 at home to Stuttgart across the city to all-but end the Hoops’ hopes of advancing to the last 16 of the Europa League.
