Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong breaks silence on ‘laughable’ outfield miscues
The Chicago Cubs are attempting to regroup after one of their strongest stretches of the season cooled considerably in recent weeks, and recent defensive miscues from center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong have added to the frustration surrounding the club’s downturn. Chicago opened the year with a 24-16 record through its first 40 games but has since gone 2-8 over its last 10, falling to third place in the National League Central at 29-21, tied with the St. Louis Cardinals and sitting 1.5 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
Crow-Armstrong dropped a routine fly ball Tuesday before misplaying another ball Wednesday that resulted in an inside-the-park run during Chicago’s 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The defeats extended the Cubs’ losing streak to five games after the club opened the season with a strong 27-12 record. Chicago has since slipped out of first place while searching for consistency on both sides of the field.
WGN-TV’s Josh Frydman posted a video from the Cubs clubhouse on X, formerly known as Twitter, late on Wednesday night as Crow-Armstrong publicly addressed the on-field miscues for the first time. The 24-year-old acknowledged he has been pressing while attempting to overcome offensive struggles and help the Cubs reverse their recent downturn.

“Yesterday and today are genuinely laughable,” Crow-Armstrong said. “One thing I can fall back on is it’s never a lack of focus but [instead] trying too hard and trying to make up for the lack of production that I have given this team and this city.”
The comments offered a candid look at the pressure the 2025 Gold Glove-winning center fielder has felt during the skid. Regarded as one of the top defensive outfielders on the planet, Crow-Armstrong made clear the mistakes stemmed from overcompensating rather than a lack of effort.
The timing further amplified attention surrounding the Cubs’ recent struggles. Milwaukee swept the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, handing Chicago its first home series sweep since 2021 and extending the club’s difficult recent stretch
