Joe’s best horse racing betting tips for Berkshire Winter Million at Ascot Day 2 Saturday

Saturday’s action at Ascot Racecourse is all about quality and Clarence House Day looks the standout card of the Winter Millions as some of the season’s best two-mile chasers go head to head.

The Clarence House Chase takes centre stage and promises fireworks, with championship implications, strong recent form lines and a pace setup that should suit bold, attacking types.

Add in Ascot’s demanding finish and likely testing ground, and this is a day where class alone won’t be enough.

From Grade 1 stars to deep handicaps packed with betting angles, Clarence House Day regularly delivers for punters who get the conditions right.

Below, I access the key races, highlight the strongest trends and pinpoint the best bets for Saturday’s Winter Millions action at Ascot.

12.25 BetMGM Juvenile Hurdle (Class 3) 1m71/2f

I’d definitely have this between the top pair in the betting and WINSTON JUNIOR gets the vote for Faye Bramley.

This 4yo bumped into Galactique on hurdles debut at Fontwell and then found just the one rival too strong at Cheltenham last month. He has more to come again and looks the one to side with now.

Down To Business represents Dan and Harry Skelton and shaped with promise when third at Newbury so with natural improvement should give the favourite most to think about.

🏇 Bet on WINSTON JUNIOR to win at 11/8 with BetVictor 🏇

1.00 BetMGM Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m

I’m really keen on THE JUKEBOX KID here. I don’t think he showed his best form when fourth at Cheltenham last time and is better judged on the way he won at Carlisle on reappearance.

He is obviously open to further improvement given this is just his third start over fences and I think he’ll get firmly back on track.

Welcom To Cartries did well to win at Sandown last month and arrives full of confidence so should try and make a race of it with the selection. Of the rest In D’or was only beaten 2 lengths by the latter last time so is also respected.

🏇 Bet on THE JUKEBOX KID to win at 3/1 with bet365 🏇

1.40 BetMGM Warfield Mares’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 1m71/2f

  • 10 of the last 10 winners were aged between 7 and 9
  • 7 of the last 10 winners were favourites
  • 5 of the last 10 winners won on their last run before
  • 7 of the last 10 winners were rated 145 or higher

I was with LA CONQUIERE at both Uttoxeter and Newbury and she has looked really promising. She showed a good attitude to make a winning start over hurdles and then followed up looking quite an exciting prospect at Newbury last time.

She obviously has more to come and while this is tougher I think she could have some big pots in her down the line so worth keeping on side here.

Nurse Susan is finally fulfilling her promise on the track winning easily at Cheltenham and then following up at Sandown despite briefly looking in trouble.

If she is in the same form again she is definitely the danger but again this looks tougher. Joyeuse has proved bitterly disappointing this season and has enough to prove.

🏇 Bet on LA CONQUIERE to win at 13/8 with bet365 🏇

2.20 bet365 Handicap Chase (Class 2) 2m5f

I really don’t see too many dangers to VICENZO here. He has proved ultra consistent and looked good winning twice over fences last season.

He bumped into Panic Attack on return in the Paddy Power Gold Cup and then chased home a horse that had things his own way at Cheltenham last month. If he jumps well here I expect him to win this comfortably.

Scarface found Etalon too strong here last month but is probably a good bet to reverse that form and emerge as the main danger here. Etalon is respected too but a 5lb rise means he is off a career high mark now so this is a tough ask.

🏇 Bet on VINCENZO to win at 2/1 with Betfred 🏇

2.53 BetMGM Holloway’s Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m31/2f

I’m taking a chance on MARCHE D’ALIGRE here a double-figure price. Jamie Snowden is in great form as he has been for much of the season and this 5yo has done little wrong finishing second both starts this season.

He just bumped into a well handicapped horse at Sandown last month and I like this step up in trip so I think he is overpriced.

Came From Nowhere looked good winning at Hereford and if handling this better company could have decent claims. Surrey Lord has won 3 of his last 4 and is another one likely to be well backed and he should get competitive as well.

🏇 Bet on MARCHE D’ALIGRE each way at 9/1 with BetMGM 🏇

3.30 BetMGM Clarence House Chase (Grade 1) (Class 1) 2m1f

  • 10 of the last 12 winners were aged between 7 and 9
  • 8 of the last 12 winners were favourites or joint favourites
  • 10 of the last 12 winners won on their last run before
  • 9 of the last 12 winners were rated 160 or higher

Jonbon thrashed Energumene in this race last year and does have the assistance of Harry Cobden now but even so it is difficult to get away from IL ETAIT TEMPS.

The latter has beaten Jonbon the last two times they have met and was miles too strong winning the Tingle Creek by 9 lengths last month. He is thriving and should hold all the answers.

I expect Jonbon to run well and he does look the one to give the selection most to think about.

He is around 11/10 without the favourite which doesn’t look a bad bet at all as I think he’ll finish in front of Thistle Ask and Gidleigh Park. The latter still has potential to rate higher but clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train.

🏇 Bet on IL ETAIT TEMPS to win at 8/13 with Paddy Power 🏇

4.05 BetMGM EBF ’National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (Class 3) 2m51/2f

I was keen on LAGUNDA BEACH for this anyway and then Catchintsavo who he beat at Hereford came out and franked the form on Thursday.

His third behind Hurricane Pat on hurdles debut also looks a decent run so his form is stacking up and he is a deserved favourite here.

The Burren Man bolted up on debut under Rules at Carlisle and could be a nice horse so if improving looks the one to make a race of it. At a bigger price Minella Marathon was poor at Cheltenham but did look promising winning on debut prior to that and could bounce back and hit the frame.

🏇 Bet on LAGUNA BEACH to win at 2/1 with BetVictor 🏇

My top tip for Berkshire Winter Million racing at Ascot

I’m really looking forward to seeing LA CONQUIERE back out and I’m hopeful she can remain unbeaten over hurdles. She won in the style of a promising type last time and looks a mare to keep on side here and going forward.

The second leg of the double is VICENZO who has been mega consistent and deserves to get his head back in front here.

🏇Bet a Win Double on LA CONQUIERE and VINCENZO at 7/1 with bet365 🏇
