Jets draft plan revealed as NFL insider shares details of private workout with top QB prospect
The New York Jets have plenty of holes to fill ahead of the new season.
Gang Green were a hard watch in 2025, and finished with just three wins on the year.

The Jets haven’t posted a winning season in the past decade, and last took a trip to the NFL playoffs way back in 2010.
Heading into 2026, there is little for fans to shout about.
The Justin Fields experiment failed last season, and the former first-round pick has since departed MetLife Stadium.
Veteran quarterback Geno Smith has arrived to fill his shoes, and will have a crack at turning the team around.
But at 35-years-old, Smith doesn’t represent a long-term solution under center in New York, and that has led to speculation the Jets could draft a signal caller to learn behind him.
Ty Simpson has been one name linked to the team in recent weeks, and had a private workout on Friday.
Jets insider shares details of Ty Simpson visit
The Alabama prospect is expected to be a first-round pick in next month’s draft, and will almost certainly be the second QB off the board, behind consensus top pick Fernando Mendoza.
ESPN reporter Rich Cimini, who covers the Jets, revealed how Simpson’s visit went down.
“The first thing to note, that I think is important, is who was at the workout,” he began.
“The Jets sent their top two decision makers, (GM) Darren Mougey and (HC) Aaron Glenn — and also their two resident quarterback gurus, (OC) Frank Reich and (QBs coach) Bill Musgrave.

“So that tells me something right there. Also last night, they had dinner with Ty Simpson, just to get to know him on a personal level.
“And I know for being around Aaron Glenn, that’s important to him because he, of all people, knows what it takes to play in New York and how hard it is to be the quarterback of the Jets.
“So they want to find out if that person has those special intangibles that you’re looking for.
“And then presumably, they gave him a play sheet with their plays, and some of the concepts they like to run in their passing attack.
“Then the next morning, they test him on those plays to find out what kind of retention he has, put him on the whiteboard and see what kind of memory he has.”
Jets long-term draft plan revealed amid Ty Simpson visit
While a private workout would suggest the Jets are keen to draft Simpson next month, Cimini noted the team has ‘so many other needs’ that will likely be addressed with their two first-round picks — No. 2 and No. 16.

Instead of committing to the Alabama QB, New York could instead look to take one of the top signal callers in the 2027 draft, which will almost certainly include the likes of Arch Manning and Dante Moore.
Cimini continued: “Look, I’ve been around the organisation a long time.
“Based on what I know, I’d be a little surprised if they took (Simpson) at No. 16, only because they have so many other needs.
“I do know this, with three (round) one picks in next year’s draft, the Jets do not feel like they are pressured to take someone this year.

“So they’re going into it with that mentality.”
The Jets, then, might be willing to let someone like Simpson slip through their fingers as they look forward to 2027.
The man himself believes he is ‘absolutely’ a first-round pick, meaning he will expect to be off the board before New York returns to kick off Day 2.
But if he is still available come then, the Jets could take a chance — as long as he impressed during his visit.
