JB Pritzker puts Chicago mayor on blast over new Bears stadium failures
One of the biggest talking points for the Chicago Bears this offseason has been about where their new home will be after their days in Soldier Field come to a close. One possible location is in western Indiana, while another would be in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Illinois, both of which are outside the city of Chicago, angering some fans.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has spoken out against the relocation and attempted to block lawmakers from granting a tax break that would allow a move to Arlington Heights, but recently, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized Johnson for not doing more.
“He has come up with no plan at all about how the Bears would end up in the city of Chicago. So, that’s problematic. I’d love them to be in the city, but we are three years in now, and he still has no plan,” said Pritzker, per Brendon Moore of Capitol News Illinois on X, formerly Twitter.
It’s unclear exactly what steps Pritzker believes that Johnson should have followed in order to keep the Bears in the city, but clearly, he wishes the mayor had done more.
Meanwhile, Courtney Cronin of ESPN also reported on the latest regarding the Bears’ potential move.
“The Bears maintain the same stance that there are only 2 viable options to build their new stadium. That’s been the rhetoric they’ve stood behind for months despite Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson’s late push to try and keep the Bears in the city,” reported Cronin on X.
Thankfully, Bears fans won’t have to worry about traveling far outside the city to go to games for several years, as Soldier Field will remain the home of the team for the foreseeable future.
