Jayson Tatum shares candid moment with Joel Embiid after Celtics’ Game 7 elimination

The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are bitter rivals, but that doesn’t mean Jayson Tatum and Joel Embiid don’t have a mutual respect for each other’s talents. Unfortunately for Tatum and Celtics fans, the two didn’t face off in Game 7, as Tatum was a late addition to the injury report with a left knee injury. Despite the disappointing loss, Tatum took some time to chat with Embiid after the game, according to Fullcourtpass via X, formerly Twitter.

Tatum had just 17 points in 29 minutes in Game 6, which concerned his fans that he wasn’t at 100% health, too soon after his return from a ruptured Achilles tendon earlier this season. The concern was a calf injury, but he ended up on the injury report with a left knee issue.

If there’s anyone Tatum can relate to when it comes to missing games due to injury, it’s Embiid. The center had an outstanding performance in Game 7 to finally slay that dragon, recording 34 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists in the victory. He did go down with what looked like a knee injury late in the game, but he was mostly recovered by the time the final buzzer rang.

The 76ers will need Embiid to get back to full health before their series against the New York Knicks, while another long offseason of recovery and training for Tatum might be just what he needs. Rumors could run rampant about what the hidden conversation between the two looked like on the court. Still, it’s likely nothing more than shared messages of congratulations and encouragement from the pair.
