Jameis Winston toasts Japanese fans after viral World Cup moment vs. Netherlands
Japanese World Cup fans went viral on Sunday when Team Japan faced off against the Netherlands, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, after the contest, fans in attendance went viral on social media for cleaning up AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston was spotted helping the Japanese fans clean up the stands and shared a toast to everyone who helped out that day.
One soccer fan posted on X that they were simply helping clean the stands and didn’t even realize that the individual holding the trash bag open for them was none other than Winston. After admitting he didn’t know who it was until now, the fan shared an uplifting message about sports and unity.
“After the Japan–Netherlands match, I picked up litter with Jameis Winston, who kindly held the bag open. I later found out he was an NFL star,” said the fan. “Maybe, along with the litter, I picked up a miracle. Let’s pick up miracles together and make every World Cup stadium shine.”
Jameis Winston responded to the post on X with a message of his own. The 11-year NFL veteran shared his enthusiasm with the World Cup as well.
“Thank you and all the Japanese supporters for sharing your traditions with me,” said Winston. “This World Cup is all about spreading culture and miracles.”
This year’s World Cup has shown numerous viral videos since before the start of the tournament. Fans from all over have shown their appreciation and surprise with American culture, while sharing their own culture with the U.S. and one another.
Team Japan will play its next contest on June 20. The team is scheduled to take on Tunisia for its second pool group game.
