Jake Paul accused of ‘lying’ about sparring for Anthony Joshua fight as theory emerges
Carl Froch believes Jake Paul has lied about sparring top heavyweights for his clash with Anthony Joshua.
Paul is currently preparing to attempt to make one of sport’s all-time biggest upsets when he takes on former two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua on December 19.
The ‘Problem Child’ has been trying to replicate Joshua by sparring a series of top 20 heavyweights.
One of those is former two-weight champion and recent heavyweight entrant Lawrence Okolie, who flew out to work with the YouTuber-turned-boxer for a second time.
Okolie has worked in the past with Joshua and is a good friend of his fellow British heavyweight, and has given glowing review of Paul in camp so far.
Paul even showed off a nasty black eye which he revealed came from one of his sessions with a powerful heavyweight.
But Froch, a common critic of Paul, believes the likes of Okolie wouldn’t have been sparring properly with Paul.
He said: “They’re not sparring f**ng Jake Paul.
“They’re moving around with him, touching him up, a little technical bulls***. They’re not sparring him.
“Lawrence Okolie is quite a big puncher. He’s big now. Jake Paul is not good enough to spar them.
“Let’s see the footage, let’s see the sparring, then I’ll believe it.
On the back of his theory, Froch added: “Every single boxing fan knows, that if AJ goes in with Jake Paul, and tries, the fight won’t last a minute.
“If he hits Jake Paul with that right hand, he might f****** snap his neck. Then it’s game-over, then it is bad for the sport.”
Who has Paul been sparring to face Joshua?
Paul hasn’t just been sparring Okolie, he has also been up against some other leading heavyweight contenders.
The influencer-boxer has also stepped in with Jared Anderson, who Tyson Fury famously tipped as the division’s next big prospect.
He has also been sparring leading ranked Cuban Frank Sanchez, who is in the world title mix.
The powerful slugger is set to fight Richard Torrez Jr in a world title eliminator in 2026, and is a great experience for Paul to get under his belt.
Paul’s business partner Nakisa Bidarian has suggested that preparations for this fight have been in the works from as early as March.
And he believes all these tweaks and experience will see him record a historic victory over Joshua.
He said: “The fight is called Jake versus Joshua and I very much expect Jake to come out the victor.
“But Jake’s been predicting this since March of this year. He’s been planning for this this entire time.
“He has a personally-built gym focused on boxing. He has the best trainers in the world and we consistently have the best sparring partners for him in the world.”
