Angel Reese makes WNBA history against Caitlin Clark’s Fever as calls grow for Indiana to ‘fire everyone’

Angel Reese has made WNBA history by reaching 1,000 career rebounds faster than any other player.

And she did it in front of a home crowd against Caitlin Clark‘s Indiana Fever.

The Atlanta Dream confirmed Reese‘s milestone came with her sixth rebound of Saturday’s game, which she grabbed during the third-quarter.

“She’s sitting at the TOP,” the team posted on X, with a crown emoji.

The WNBA‘s official account also sent a congratulatory message, while the NBA‘s handle added: “HISTORY FOR ANGEL REESE.”

Reese reached 1,000 rebounds in just 79 games, and has become the fastest player to hit the milestone by a full 10 games.

Tina Charles, who is the WNBA’s all-time rebounds leader with a ridiculous 4,262 in 473 appearances, needed 89 games to amass her first thousand.

Reese, the seventh overall pick of the 2024 draft, has long been expected to make that history.

The LSU product led the league in rebounding in each of her first two seasons, when she played with the Chicago Sky, and even sought to trademark the term ‘Mebounds’.

She has continued to dominate on the boards in her first year with the Dream, following a blockbuster trade.

Reese’s historic moment came in what was her latest tangle with Clark’s Fever — and she had even more reason to celebrate at the final buzzer too.

Angel Reese tops Caitlin Clark in back-to-back games

Atlanta secured a big victory over Indiana on Saturday, coming back from a halftime deficit to win 113-96 at State Farm Arena.

Reese entered the game as one of three players in the WNBA averaging a double-double, with at 15.1 points and 12.2 rebounds, and was important once more as the Dream improved to 11-4.

Teammate Naz Hillmon was named Player of the Game, with a season-high 19 points.

Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray also starred, with 24 and 22 points each.

Atlanta is now tied with the defending champion Las Vegas Aces for the second-best record in the league, behind the Minnesota Lynx.

Reese also has clear bragging rights over Clark — the pair have long been painted as rivals — with back-to-back wins over Indiana.

Fever fans call for change after latest defeat

The Dream beat the Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 18, and Indiana has now slipped to 9-7 on the season.

Postgame, fans made their frustrations clear, with some taking to social media to demand the team fire head coach Stephanie White amid a slide.

“FIRE STEPHANIE WHITE. She’s going to waste CC’s prime and a great roster,” one raged on X.

“It is just a matter of time now before Indiana makes a coaching change. The quicker the better for everyone,” another said.

“Get rid of the coach or trade CC… you are about to ruin some of the players,” a third said.

“To the owners of the Indiana Fever: It’s either fire everyone, or trade CC,” a fourth concluded.

Indiana will look to bounce back at home against the Phoenix Mercury on Monday night, where Coach White might just be looking to save her job.
