Jacoby Brissett joining Cardinals’ OTAs, but the holdout is not over

A positive sign surfaced for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday after it was announced that quarterback Jacoby Brissett will attend the team’s mini-camp this week.

The development was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Josh Weinfuss.

Brissett was absent from the Cardinals’ previous OTAs amid his contract standoff with the front office. He is due to receive $4.9 million this season, which is low compared to other starting signal-callers. 

The 33-year-old Brissett signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract with Arizona in 2025. He was thrust into the starting role in Week 6 after top quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a foot injury.

Fowler and Weinfuss noted that Brissett could be fined close to $108,000 if he does not show up for the mini-camp, based on the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement. They added that Brissett’s level of participation in the said activity remains unclear.

In his maiden stint with the Cardinals last season, he passed for career-highs of 3,366 yards and 25 touchdowns in 14 games. They finished with a 3-14 record and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year.

Brissett played well enough to convince Arizona to stick with him, releasing Murray in March after seven seasons. Murray signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Fowler and Weinfuss posited that the contract stalemate between Brissett and the Cardinals is not going to be resolved anytime soon.

“A deal is unlikely to get done in the next day, a source told ESPN, so Brissett will be reporting without a new deal in place. In May, a source told ESPN that both sides were ‘significantly’ far apart,” said Fowler and Weinfuss.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur already stated that he is not too worried about Brissett’s situation.

Their mini-camp will start on Tuesday.
