Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards has been ruled out of IPL 2026 owing to a foot injury.

The 25-year-old became the only uncapped overseas player signed in the Auction, bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 3 crore. This comes as a further blow to the Sunrisers, after the confirmation of captain Pat Cummins missing the start of the tournament, as he continue to recover from a lumbar stress issue.

Edwards had a fantastic showing in the recently completed Big Bash League season, picking up 19 wickets in 12 innings at an average of 18.47 in Sydney Sixers' run to the final, where they fell short against the Perth Scorchers.

He made his international debut just four days after the final, in a T20I against Pakistan in Lahore, his only appearance for the Australian team. It was not a memorable outing for him with figures of 0/25 in two overs and score of five runs in six balls. Edwards recently played two games in the Sheffield Shield for New South Wales, the last of which got over only on March 17.

SRH are now going to be without two of their three overseas fast-bowlers for the start of the season, with England’s Brydon Carse being the only foreign quick in their squad.

In the absence of Australian skipper Cummins, Ishan Kishan is set to take the reins for the Hyderabad side, with Abhishek Sharma appointed as vice-captain.

Edwards also becomes the fourth Australian bowler to miss the IPL through injury, alongside Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis. Ellis has been ruled out for the Chennai Super Kings due to a hamstring injury, and there are concerns surrounding Josh Hazlewood’s fitness, having last appearing in the white-ball series against India in late 2025. He is slated to play towards the later stages of the competition.

Sunrisers Hyderabad kick off their season against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
