The San Antonio Spurs will hope to continue their positive regular season run against defending champions the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. The series tips off at Paycomm Center on Monday, with the Thunder looking to extend their run after becoming the first champions since the 2018 Golden State Warriors to get past the second round in the postseason an year after winning the championship.
OKC came into the postseason as the No. 1 seed for the third year running, and roll into Game 1 with an almost unblemished injury report, with Thomas Sorber the only confirmed out. That however is not true for the Spurs, who have listed De’Aaron Fox as questionable due to right ankle soreness.
Joining him on the official injury report is Luke Kornet, who is dealing with left foot soreness. Fox tweaked his ankle during San Antonio’s Game 6 closeout win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He briefly exited the game but returned and ended the night with 21 points, nine assists and four rebounds.
Thus, considering the importance of the stage, he can once again be expected to suit up despite the designation.
De’Aaron Fox’s injury status vs. Thunder

De’Aaron Fox has been listed as questionable but can be expected to suit up, himself downplaying the injury after Game 6, per USA Today. Despite struggling with the injury, he had a thoroughly efficient outing that saw him go 8-10 from the field. Fox was his team’s second-highest scorer on the night behind Stephon Castle, who had 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
“I’m all right. I mean, it hurts a bit. It’s the side, not the back, so I felt comfortable being back out there,” Fox had said post-game.
He has been a crucial outlet for San Antonio throughout the postseason, averaging 18.8 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds across 11 games. However, in the event he does not play, the likes of Dylan Harper, Castle and Devin Vassell can be expected to return with increased minutes from Game 1.
Oklahoma City enters the series 8-0 this postseason with the highest offensive rating remaining in the playoffs, while San Antonio arrives after eliminating Minnesota in six games. The Spurs were 4-1 in the regular season against the defending champions, but will be well aware that SGA and company have been on a different level in the playoffs consistently over the past multiple seasons.
The Spurs will once again rely heavily on Victor Wembanyama, who is averaging 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks during the playoffs. His defensive impact becomes crucial against a team that relies on interior fouls and multiple scorers, and the Spurs will hope he can be at his best throughout the series.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City have also received a major boost with Jalen Williams returning after missing the previous series with a hamstring strain. Still, both teams have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about their chances.
Wemby has anchored the league’s best defence, while the now two-time MVP Shai will know that the French phenom is the biggest challenger both personally and for his team this year, at least on paper.
