Ipswich v QPR prediction

Ipswich head into Saturday’s clash on the final day of the Championship season knowing victory will guarantee their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Kieran McKenna’s side head into the weekend sat second in the Championship table, one point better off than third placed Millwall and two clear of Middlesbrough.

After a slow start to the season following their relegation from the Premier League last spring, the Tractor Boys recovered well to climb into the top six in November and have been an almost ever present in the play-off picture since, breaking into the two earlier this month in their bid to peak at the perfect time.

However, the Suffolk side have made a habit of dropping points in recent weeks, winning only one of their last five matches, albeit having lost only one of their last 14.

Ipswich had the chance to all but guarantee promotion on Tuesday night where they knew a win at Southampton would have put them three points ahead of Millwall with an insurmountable lead in goal difference.

The East Anglian club have been formidable at home this season, losing just once at Portman Road in all competitions, which came way back in October, but again, have been picking up two many draws for their liking, with only one win in their last four at home.

QPR make the trip to Suffolk with nothing tangible still to play for, but know a win on the final day could put them in a position to secure their first top half finish in the Championship in four years.

Julien Stephan currently sit 14th in the second tier table, two points off 12th placed Preston, but will head to Portman Road without a win in five matches and off the back of three defeats in a row, and only two victories away from home since November.

Ipswich have picked up seven points from their last three meetings with QPR, including a 4-1 win at Loftus Road earlier this season, however the Rs are unbeaten across their last three visits to Portman Road.

With Ipswich knowing they’re just a win away from a return to the Premier League, and an out of form QPR side having nothing left to play for, a home win seems the most likely outcome, with perhaps a tentative start but the Tractor Boys should switch into gear and face little trouble – a 2-0 home win perhaps the most likely outcome.

Ipswich v QPR betting tips

Destination: Premier League for Tractor Boys

Ipswich head into the weekend knowing victory against midtable QPR on Saturday lunchtime will guarantee their promotion to the Premier League next season.

Only Coventry have picked up more points than Ipswich at home this season, with the Tractor Boys having lost only once at Portman Road in all competitions this season, where they’re unbeaten since October.

QPR make the trip to Suffolk winless in their last three matches and ahving lost each of their last three.

Clarke on the mark

Only two players have scored more goals in the Championship this season than Ipswich winger Jack Clarke, who bagged his 16th of the campaign in Tuesday night’s draw at Southampton.

The 25-year-old, who had a loan spell at QPR earlier in his career, has scored three goals in his last two starts against the west London stars, and another one on Saturday would make the Rs his joint-most scored against team across his career.
