IPL 2026: What will happen if GT vs RR, Qualifier 2 is washed out? Explained
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently awaiting their finalists for the IPL 2026 final, but that will be decided with the winner of the Qualifier 2 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals on Friday, May 29, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium, New Chandigarh. The clash will be a do-or-die encounter for both sides, and the loser will have to end their journey right there.
On the other hand, the winner will be up against the defending champions. In either situation, both GT and RR have an excellent chance to win their second respective IPL title. However, fans are wondering what will happen if there is a washout and the fate of the game does not end with a definitive result. There is also confusion around who will be playing RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in case of a washout.
What will happen if GT vs RR, Qualifier 2 of IPL 2026, is washed out?
In case of a washout, the team that finished higher on the points table at the end of the league-stage campaign will be making it through to the summit clash and face Rajat Patidar's RCB in the glory encounter on Sunday.
Notably, GT finished second on the points table with 18 points after nine wins in the league stage. On the contrary, the Royals finished fourth and were also the last team to qualify for the playoffs with sixteen points after fourteen league-stage encounters. Since GT finished higher on the table compared to RR, they will be awarded a place in the final in case of a washout.
Is there a Reserve Day for Qualifier 2, GT vs RR?
Unfortunately, there is no Reserve Day for the Qualifier 2 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. However, an extra 120 minutes of cut-off time is allotted for this high-profile fixture in case there is a delay or interruption in the conduct of the match due to weather conditions like rain or a wet outfield. As a result, the organisers have made extra arrangements to make sure that the game is completed on the set date.
GT vs RR: Road to Qualifier 2
For the unversed, GT reached the Qualifier 2 after conceding the first one against RCB at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. GT were unable to chase the daunting total set by the Bengaluru-based side and thus were given another chance to prove their worth. On the other hand, Riyan Parag & Co. thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on Wednesday to ready themselves for the second qualifier spot.
While a win is necessary for RR to go through to the finals, GT would not mind a drawn match as it would still seal their spot for the encounter at the gigantic stadium in Ahmedabad, which also happens to be their home ground.
