The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a massive blow with fast bowler Lungi Ngidi being stretchered off in an ambulance during their game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Match 35 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Batting first, DC posted a massive 264 on the board. In reply, PBKS made a lightning start to their innings with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh making the most in the powerplay.

In the third over, being bowled by Axar Patel, Priyansh Arya skied a ball straight down the ground. Ngidi tracked back to try and take the catch, but failed in the process and instead lost his balance and fell on the ground with his head hitting hard on the turf. The moment he hit the ground, he looked in agonising pain, with the medical team soon coming in to examine the extent of the neck injury.

Ngidi’s South African teammates Tristan Stubbs and David Miller also formed part of the DC XI and looked in shock to see their compatriot being taken away in an ambulance.

Moments after the incident, Ngidi was surrounded by a doctor and four other emergency staff, with the ambulance entering the cricket ground. Following a lengthy spell on the stretcher, the 30-year-old complained of a headache and neck pain and was carried into the ambulance and taken to the nearby hospital.

After a halt in play, the game resumed once again with all-rounder Vipraj Nigam entering the field as an injury replacement.  Ngidi did not bowl a single over before his unfortunate injury.

In some good news for cricket fans across the world, Ngidi was later declared to be in stable condition and was due to be discharged from the hospital very shortly.

Ngidi could be a huge miss for DC going further into the tournament. The right-arm fast bowler has taken seven wickets at an economy of 8.70.

Following their defeat against PBKS, DC find themselves sixth in the points table, having accumulated three wins from their first seven matches of the 2026 season.
