Iconic Isle of Man TT race cancelled following 271st death and two-year-old airlifted to hospital

All of the sidecar races at the iconic Isle of Man TT have been cancelled in a schedule shake-up following a serious incident.

Organisers confirmed they were taking the decision to suspend the event after ‘an immediate technical and operational review’.

The review came due to a crash involving the favourites to win, Callum and Ryan Crowe, on Wednesday evening.

Their car flipped over on a jump amid the windy conditions on the mountain circuit, leading to concerning injuries for both.

The brothers’ father Nick reduced worries of any fatality though, saying via The Times: “Although they have fractures and a head injury, they are sedated at the minute, there is no risk to their lives.”

Despite that, Isle of Man TT organisers have opted to abandon all sidecar events before things officially get started on Saturday.

The decision came due to concerns over the safety of those racing and people watching on the side of the iconic track.

An official statement read: “Following that review, in conjunction with the event promoter, a decision has been taken to suspend the sidecar class for the remainder of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.

“This precautionary measure has been implemented in the interests of competitor and spectator safety and reflects the Race Organisation’s commitment to reviewing all aspects of event safety and operational delivery whenever an incident occurs.”

‘Our deepest condolences’

The Isle of Man TT festival has sadly included many deaths across the years, with another being confirmed on Thursday.

Daniel Ingham from Melton Mowbray was killed in a crash during qualifying on Wednesday evening.

The 33-year-old was the 271st person to pass away on the racecourse.

Organisers wrote: “The Isle of Man TT Races are deeply saddened by the passing of Daniel Ingham following an incident in yesterday evening’s qualifying session for the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Daniel’s family, loved ones, and friends. We would also like to send our heartfelt sympathies to his team.

“Whilst 2026 marked his TT debut, Daniel had over a decade of experience on the Mountain Course having competed in the Manx Grand Prix since 2016, claiming a number of podiums in that time, and winning the prestigious Senior MGP in 2024.

“A popular and well-respected member of the road racing community, Daniel’s passion for the sport was evident to all that knew him.”

As well as the incidents involving the Crowe brothers and Ingham, there was also another crash in sidecar qualifying on Tuesday.

Driver Maria Costello was flown to hospital and is reported to be in a serious but stable condition, with her passenger, Shaun Parker, suffering multiple injuries, including to his face.

And earlier in the week, a solo driver had hit the barriers on the circuit, injuring eight spectators who were watching on.

A two-year-old girl had to be airlifted to hospital, while her grandfather was also injured, with event organisers revealing that spectators will not be able to view the racing from that area again during the festival this weekend.
