HBCU football player passes away in motorcycle accident

The North Carolina A&T community is reeling following the tragic passing of junior defensive lineman Kelvin Level Broadhurst Jr., who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident this past Saturday afternoon. The news has sent shockwaves through the Greensboro campus and the wider HBCU football landscape, as teammates, classmates, and coaches struggle to process the sudden loss of a young man who was just beginning to realize his potential.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, the twenty-year-old student-athlete was traveling on Interstate 40 East on Saturday afternoon. As he attempted to transition to the US 29 South ramp, Broadhurst reportedly lost control of his motorcycle.

The vehicle struck a guardrail and went off-road, resulting in Broadhurst being ejected. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency responders, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Per a statement, the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the factors that led to the accident, though no other vehicles were reportedly involved.

Broadhurst was more than just a name on the roster; he was a consistent presence in the trenches for the Aggies. Over the course of 28 games, he proved to be a reliable defensive contributor, totaling 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks. His journey to Greensboro began at Dorman High School in South Carolina, where he established himself as a formidable prospect with a 43-tackle senior season.

Known for his work ethic and immense talent, Broadhurst was expected to take on an even larger leadership role in the coming season under second-year Aggie head coach Shawn Gibbs.
