Harry Kane told one thing that could stop him breaking Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga goal record
Harry Kane has Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga goal record in his sights – but one thing may stop him from making history.
The England captain scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 win over Hoffenheim to bring his league tally up to 24 from 21 games.

Only Lewandowski has ever had more at this stage, with the Barcelona star one goal ahead in his record-breaking 2020/21 season.
The 37-year-old memorably broke Gerd Müller’s 49-year record by notching 41 Bundesliga goals in a single campaign five years ago.
Kane banged in 36 goals in 32 appearances in his maiden Bundesliga campaign, but fell much shorter last year as Bayern won the title.
However, the former Tottenham striker has been in unstoppable form since August and admitted Lewandowski’s record is in his sights.
European football expert Andy Brassell believes the only thing that might slow Kane down is his selfless nature as an all-round player.
The 32-year-old is just two assists away from equalling Lewandowski’s tally of seven in the Bundesliga in the 2020/21 season.
Kane also boasts a far more all-encompassing heat map for Vincent Kompany, with Lewandowski stylistically a more penalty box attacker.
Kane’s 125 touches in the opposition box are 95 fewer than the Pole in 20/21, with his possession in the final third just seven in contrast to 33, despite making just three fewer total tackles in 13 fewer games.
Brassell told talkSPORT: “Since the moment that Kane arrived in Munich, all of the Lewandowski records have been on.
“Bear in mind, when this Lewandowski record was set in 2020/21, they looked at it as an amazing achievement.”

“Both in terms of Bayern and in terms of German football, it was a record that no one ever thought would be beaten, and Lewandowski got past it.
“When Lewandowski gets past it, it’s like, ‘Right, no one’s ever going to do that again.’
“Now, Kane hasn’t got past it yet, but every year it’s felt possible that he could. Take away what Kane has been able to do on and off the pitch at Bayern, and then just look at the raw numbers – That he’s able to do that is unbelievable.
“That he has put himself statistically in the mix with Lewandowski and Gerd Müller is incredible. It’s an incredible effort.
“I know you can say that he’s playing for the best team in the league and they’re miles better than everyone else.
“All those things are true, but still, the sheer relentlessness of it, when you think that goals are not the only thing he offers, and he’s not just interested in goals, that he takes up lots of deep starting positions to play out passes for the wide players.

“And if he binned all that off and spent all his time in the penalty box, he could get even more goals.
“So, really, if there’s one thing that’s going to hold Kane back, I think if you look at a heat map of Harry Kane’s average game or even season, if that’s possible, you would see someone who takes up much deeper positions than a normal number nine.
“The other part of that, of course, is the fact that because he was never a whippet of a centre forward and because he’s into his thirties now, once he’s delivered the ball to the wide players, he’s only really getting in the penalty box for the second ball. He’s not able to go and collect the cross.
“He’s just a supplier there. So, maybe that limits him in terms of the goals he’s going to score.”
“He’ll get the chances to get close.
“Unless they get to a point where they’re resting him before a Champions League semi or final, then Kane is going to run it close, I think.”

Kane hopes to break Lewandowski record
Bayern’s comfortable win over Hoffenheim was their first Bundesliga victory in three matches following a first league defeat and a draw.
Before the winter break, Kane had admitted Lewandowski’s record was on his mind after the Bavarians started the year so well.
He told Sky Sport Germany: “I think it’s possible, especially with the start I’ve had so far this year. There’s still a long way to go.
“I need to be able to maintain this level for another four or five months. In football, the hardest thing is to be consistent over a long period.
“This record is an incredible record, and it will be hard to beat, I know that. I always enjoy trying to have these ambitions.”
