Harry Kane in 94-year first as multiple records tumble with latest star showing for Bayern Munich

Harry Kane shattered three separate goalscoring records by firing in twice for Bayern Munich in their 3-2 Der Klassiker victory.

The England captain took his tally to 45 goals in all competitions this season with a quick-fire double in Saturday’s five-goal thriller away at rivals Borussia Dortmund.

After going 1-0 down to Nico Schlotterbeck’s opener, Kane was on hand to level things up for the Bavarians in the 54th minute.

Joshua Kimmich’s inch-perfect pass found Serge Gnabry at the far post, who headed it across for Kane to guide the ball home.

In doing so, this saw him equal his personal goalscoring record of 44 goals , which he had set in the 2023/24 season.

But Kane wasn’t done there, as Bayern were awarded a penalty 15 minutes later when Josip Stanisic was brought down by Schlotterbeck inside the box.

The 32-year-old converted from the spot to put his side 2-1 up to bring up his milestone 45th goal this term.

Kane didn’t just make personal history here, as he also became the first Englishman to reach the 45-goal mark since Dixie Dean scored 46 for Everton in the 1931/32 season.

Incredibly, the spot-kick also earned him one more spot in the history books.

With this his fourth straight double in the league, Kane became just the third player in Bundesliga history to score four braces in a row.

Only Dortmund’s Lothar Emmerich and Tomislav Maric for Wolfsburg had achieved this feat, doing so in 1967 and 2001 respectively.

Even more remarkably, Kane’s Der Klassiker exploits saw him break his personal goalscoring record in nine games fewer than his previous best.

In the 2023/24 campaign, he scored 44 in 45 games, notching his final goal in his last game of the season against VfB Stuttgart in May.

But with at least 13 games remaining of the current campaign, there is every chance Kane will go on to build on this figure.

Bayern are still competing in the Champions League and DFB Pokal, meaning he could get even more opportunities to get on the score sheet if they advance in both competitions.

Vincent Kompany’s side face Atalanta in the Champions League round of 16, but they could have as many as five more fixtures if they make it all the way to the final.

Then in the DFB Pokal, victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals will present Kane with an extra game to score in in the final.

This is the latest individual record for Kane, who recently reached the 500-goal mark in his career in fewer games than Cristiano Ronaldo.

How did Der Klassiker end?

In a thrilling derby clash, Kane’s record-breaking penalty did not decide the match, as Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson then made it 2-2 with a deft volley on 83 minutes.

But there was one more twist in store, with captain Joshua Kimmich winning it for Bayern just four minutes with a volley of his own, sparking wild scenes.

The stunning win saw the Bavarians keep up their 11-point lead over Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, as they target a second straight league glory.
