Gervonta Davis closing in on return to boxing with frontrunner named
Gervonta Davis’ return to the ring is edging ever closer.
The Baltimore boxer hasn’t stepped between the ropes since he was held to a draw by Lamont Roach in March 2025 in a defence of his WBA lightweight title.

He subsequently landed a money-spinning exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November.
However, the event was cancelled after a lawsuit was filed against the 31-year-old by his ex-girlfriend, alleging domestic abuse.
Davis was arrested in January on charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping.
He later posted bail and is now reportedly expected to return to the ring in the early fall (September).
According to BoxingScene, PBC is exercising caution on locking in an exact date amidst his legal troubles.
An official connected to PBC told the respected boxing website that a rematch with former WBA super lightweight champion Isaac Cruz is the most likely next move.
This is despite Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya recently insisting that talks are ‘imminent’ between Davis and his fighter, Floyd Schofield Jr.
Davis was made ‘champion in recess’ earlier this year by the WBA, with the Championship Committee currently considering whether to move forward with a vacant 135lbs title fight.
Schofield Jr is ranked No.1 by the WBA and would be in line for a shot at the title, either against No.2-rated Lucas Bahdi or Davis, who retains the right to challenge for the belt upon his return.
Davis defeated Cruz via unanimous decision in December 2021.

The bout was contested for Davis’ WBA ‘regular’ lightweight belt.
But the rematch is reportedly being targeted at super lightweight.
It would mark Davis’ second outing at 140lbs after previously halting Mario Barrios inside the 11 rounds for the WBA ‘regular’ super lightweight strap in June 2021.
Lamont Roach’s next move
Outside of Davis, BoxingScene has also learned that PBC are planning a summer card headlined by ‘Tank’s’ last opponent, Roach, and former lightweight world title challenger William Zepeda.
The event could happen as soon as June and will be co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions.
Whoever emerges victorious will put themselves in a strong position to challenge for the vacant WBC belt.
Zepeda is ranked No.1 by the sanctioning body, while Roach is placed at No.2.
Jadier Herrera is the WBC interim lightweight champion.
