George Kittle injury news: What status means for Week 17 vs. Bears

The San Francisco 49ers host the Chicago Bears in a critical game for both teams, and the 49ers are hoping to have a key offensive playmaker available to them. Tight end George Kittle left last week’s Monday Night Football game against the Colts with an ankle injury and is questionable for Sunday Night Football against the Bears.

George Kittle injury update

Kittle left the game late in the third quarter after suffering the injury on what he claimed was a hip-drop tackle. He was having a huge game at the time of the injury, catching seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. It was his second straight game with a touchdown and double digit fantasy points. He remained on the sideline, but did not return after the injury.

He sat out all three days of practice this week before getting the questionable tag. He could very well play coming off no practice, but we have to wait for now. The team activated tight end Brayden Willis off the practice squad, which is not a positive sign for Kittle’s status. The team will not provide inactives until 6:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, so look for more updates here in the morning before roster decisions start coming in.

Fantasy football analysis

The SNF game means you might have to make a tough call for your championship matchup. If Kittle plays, he’s a must-start. But if he ends up not playing and you were counting on him, you’re left in a bind. Luke Farrell would get the start in his place, but Jake Tonges has been the more active pass catcher. The other tight ends to consider that late in the week would be Colston Loveland or Cole Kmet on the Bears roster, Colby Parkinson on the Rams roster, and Kyle Pitts from the Falcons if he happens to also be on your roster.
