‘Full of problems’ – Igor Tudor gives brutally honest Tottenham Hotspur verdict as team told to abandon Champions League

Igor Tudor has a big job on his hands at Tottenham Hotspur, and that suggestion is coming from the interim boss himself.

Following Arsenal‘s thumping 4-1 win over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tudor didn’t sugar coat anything.

There was a sense of renewed optimism and hope ahead of the north London derby, with the Croatian drafted in to replace Thomas Frank until May.

But by the end of the contest, the ground was half empty, and Spurs had been thrashed once again by their bitter rivals.

And after the match, Tudor was brutally honest in his assessment of the team.

He said: “We need to start working hard, but hard and seriously and change the habits and try to resolve it without problems.

“Because now in this moment, the team is full of problems, that’s very evident.

“The only key is work on the training, day by day be humble, stay down, see what you can do.

“We need to start running more, we need to be more aggressive, we need to start to win the duels.

“We need to be more compact, we need to be more concentrated.

“These are the keys, working on every day in the training to change bad habits.”

The only good news about this weekend for Spurs is that West Ham and Nottingham Forest both dropped points.

Forest were beaten by Liverpool 1-0 thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner, and West Ham were held by Bournemouth.

But Spurs are in a relegation battle as they lie just four points above the drop zone.

Certainly, that is what Majestic thinks.

The DJ and host of ‘Inside Spurs’ joined Alan Pardew and Natalie Sawyer after the game to talk about his beloved Spurs, and suggested the team may be in better mind to abandon any hopes in Europe to ensure they don’t drop down to the Championship.

He said: “I don’t even think I’ve even gave my tickets away to someone. We’re in that space at the moment and we need something serious to happen.

“At the moment, a lot of my friends on the WhatsApp groups, etc, they’re so disconnected from the club.

“It’s hard to support us at the moment because when you’re not winning at home and it’s toxic and there’s nothing to hold on to.

“The one thing Spurs have always had is a player or something happening that you go through every week and you watch.

“I always talk about the fact that David Ginola, won Player of the Year in a season where Man United won the treble and I think we came like 11th. But Ginola was that fantastic.

“As a Spurs fan, you had something to watch. At the moment, there is nothing to get excited about.

“It sounds all doom and gloom, but I think we need to ride out to the end of the season.

“The realistic person in me says the quicker we’re out of the Champions League, the better.

“So, we can focus on the league because we’re not going to win the Champions League unless we’ve got some Roberto Di Matteo type miracle [at Chelsea] with Tudor.

“I just think, realistically, Arsenal today was a really difficult game for a manager to come in for his first game, especially in the north London derby where they needed to react after Wolves. Fair play to Arsenal.”

Worrying times

There is no doubt about it that these are dark days for Tottenham, and it’s not clear when or if they’ll get better.

With the game at 1-1 at half time, they capitulated in the second half, with some particularly poor performances.

There has also been a video showing Tudor telling Micky van de Ven to push up the pitch. But at no point does the Dutchman oblige.
