Fulham have launched a £28million bid for PSV striker Ricardo Pepi, talkSPORT understands.

However, the offer falls short of the Dutch side’s £30million valuation of the 23-year-old.

Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs as the Cottagers look to sign the USA international.

Pepi has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.

Those outings include a 20-minute cameo against Liverpool in the Champions League back in November.

PSV romped to a 4-1 victory at Anfield to end a five-match winless run against English opposition.

Fulham’s push to sign Pepi comes despite his ongoing injury absence.

A fractured forearm has seen the forward miss PSV’s last four matches, including their midweek defeat to Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Pepi signed a new deal with the Eredivisie champions in February last year through until the summer of 2030.

Last season’s title triumph was his second with the club since signing from Augsburg three years ago.

Pepi could also star at this summer’s World Cup on home soil for the USA.

Since making his international debut aged 18, Pepi has scored 13 goals in 34 caps for the Stars and Stripes.

Fulham transfer latest

As for Fulham, Marco Silva has yet to make a signing so far in the January transfer window.

However, Adama Traore is on the verge of leaving Craven Cottage this month.

Silva confirmed to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook on Saturday that the winger will depart before the window closes.

West Ham have shown an interest in signing Traore to boost their Premier League survival hopes.

The Cottagers, meanwhile, are up to seventh after coming from behind to beat Brighton.

Harry Wilson’s stoppage time winner secured all three points for the home side.

Fulham now sit just two points off the top four as they eye European football next season.

The club has not qualified for continental competition since their 2011/12 Europa League campaign.
