Freddie Freeman reveals how Dodgers stay motivated during middle of MLB season
The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are on top of the National League West Division with a record of 31-20, one game better than the second place San Diego Padres.
Once again, expectations are high for the Dodgers, who have Major League Baseball’s second highest payroll at just over $301 million and managed to lure both Kyle Tucker and Edwin Díaz to the team. However, maintaining consistent motivation across the grind of a demanding 162-game professional baseball season can understandably prove challenging for even the league’s most talented and experienced players at times.
However, in the words of first baseman Freddie Freeman during an interview with Insider Ken Rosenthal, not only is their goal still the World Series, but earning home field advantage, meaning that the games in the middle of the season still matter.
“Yeah, I mean, we get asked that question a lot. But there’s one goal every single year, and that’s to win a World Series championship. And every game in May, June, July matters. You saw it last year, we missed out on having home field advantage in the World Series by one game. So every game means something, and we don’t take that lightly.”

So far in 48 games played this season, Freeman has hit six home runs with 23 RBI, and currently sports a .261 batting average with a .786 OPS. He and the Dodgers will conclude their series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday before returning home to open up a series against the visiting Colorado Rockies.
