Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Tyson fresh plans drawn up with new date and venue disclosed amid legal battle

Organisers, CSI, are planning to stage Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Tyson this autumn in the United States amid a legal battle with ‘Money’ Mayweather.

The mega fight had initially been targeted for April in the Democratic Republic of Congo, until a hand injury sustained by Tyson led to the contest being postponed.

Mayweather subsequently announced a new exhibition bout with Greek Kickboxer Mike Zambidis for June 27, under a separate promotional banner.

CSI then sought an emergency injunction to have the fight stopped, alleging that it was in breach of its two-fight deal with Mayweather.

The multimedia sports company claims to have paid Mayweather $4.65million in advances for exclusive rights to promote mega fights with Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather-Zambidis was eventually cancelled, and CSI is now looking to reschedule the Tyson fight.

According to CSI’s attorney, Judd Burstein, the plan is for Mayweather-Tyson to take place on September 26 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, provided Mayweather gives it the green light.

CSI have also requested that the preliminary injunction hearing take place in August to allow for said plans to go ahead.

What does the legal filing say?

In a legal letter filed with Judge Vernon S. Broderick in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, Burstein wrote: “Plaintiffs believe that a preliminary injunction hearing will require two to three days of testimony and request that the Court schedule the hearing on August 26 to 28, 2026 – dates on
which David Jonelis, lead counsel for Defendant Floyd Maywethaer, Jr. [Sic] (“Mayweather”), has told me that he is available.

“I ask for these dates because, as the proof will show, Plaintiffs intend to go forward with the “Tyson Fight” on September 26, 2026 if Mr. Mayweather agrees to participate in that Fight.

“To that end, (a) CSI has the American Airlines Center in Dallas “on hold,” (b) Mike Tyson (“Tyson”) is willing and able to fight on that date, and (c) CSI will either (i) secure any required promoter’s license, or (ii) retain a licensed promoter to promote the Fight.

“However, a delay of the hearing until September will make it impossible for the Tyson Fight to go forward on
September 26 even if, by reason of a preliminary injunction, Mayweather agrees to participate in the Fight because CSI will have insufficient lead time to make the event successful.

“Further, a September hearing will give Mayweather even more of an opportunity to enter into an agreement for a bout after the as yet unscheduled “Zambidis Fight.”

Judge rejects Mayweather-Zambidis injunction after cancellation

Mayweather-Zambidis was cancelled after broadcaster DAZN dropped out, and Ticketmaster stopped selling tickets over fears of potential legal ramifications.

However, a federal judge in New York later ruled that the fight could go ahead after rejecting CSI’s claims that the fight violated Mayweather’s contractual commitments.

Judge Vernon S. Roderick rejected CSI’s application for the temporary restraining order as it did not meet the requirements for ‘irreparable harm’.

It is therefore possible that Mayweather could end up revisiting his bout with Zambidis at some point down the line, although his higher-profile contests with Tyson and Pacquiao are expected to come first.
