Florida football wins 4-star WR recruiting battle over several other schools

The Florida football team is hoping for great things in 2026, under new head coach Jon Sumrall. Sumrall is getting some top prospects from the recruiting trail. Florida got the pledge Sunday of four-star wide receiver Armani Strong, per Rivals.

This is a huge pickup for the Gators. Strong had offers from some of the best college football programs in America.

“The 6’0 180 WR chose the Gators over Miami, USC, Notre Dame, (and) Michigan,” the outlet reported on X, formerly Twitter.

According to Rivals, Strong is the first player in the Florida football 2028 recruiting class. He is from the state of Florida and has kept in close touch with the Florida staff in recent months.

“The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder made his way to Gainesville for a camp and Florida’s “Grill in the Ville” recruiting cookout earlier this month. After spending some time around the new-look SEC program, Strong is making an early commitment,” Rivals said.

Strong was excited to make a commitment to the Gators.

“No zone safe, no corner safe. The Swamp just got more explosive!! Committed, let’s go!” Strong said.

Sumrall comes to Florida after having a very successful tenure as Tulane’s head coach. He led Tulane to the College Football Playoff in 2025. Florida fans hope for even more success, as the Gators have floundered in the SEC in recent years.

Sumrall also spent some time as head coach at Troy. He replaces Billy Napier, who was fired by the Gators following a tough start to the 2025 season. Sumrall is excited to get his tenure started at Florida.

“Our expectation is for our guys to expect to win every freaking time we take the field,” Sumrall said, per Saturday Down South.

Florida kicks off their 2026 college football season with a game against Florida Atlantic. That game is on September 5.
