Fans have Mel Kiper Jr. jokes after the Browns draft QB Taylen Green

There’s no doubt about it: Mel Kiper Jr. is a fan of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

His reaction to the Colorado quarterback’s fall in the 2025 NFL Draft is the stuff of legend, with his rollercoaster ride following Sanders’ rookie season providing similarly polarizing reactions from fans across the spectrum.

So what happens when the Browns took a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft in Taylen Green, the Arkansas quarterback who drew player comps to Lamar Jackson for his otherworldly athleticism? Well, Kiper was understandably given a hard time by his fellow cohosts on ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage, which fans noticed on social media immediately.

While Kiper seemed to like Green as a prospect, noting he shouldn’t have still been on the board in the sixth round, he did note that this selection shouldn’t impact Sanders’ chance to become the Browns’ QB1 in 2026, as the Arkansas product is more of a long-term project than a ready-made NFL player.

“Mel Kiper doing big time gymnastics explaining why Taylen Green sucks, but Shadeur is awesome,” Jeff Evans wrote on social media. “The best ESPN has to offer us!”

Standing just shy of 6-foot-6, 227 pounds, Green is a borderline unprecedented athlete at the quarterback position. He ran a 4.36 40 time at the 2026 NFL Combine and backed that up with a 43.5-inch vertical jump and a 134-inch vertical jump, both of which were the best marks since 2003. While some believe he could transition to another position, likely tight end because of his size, Todd Munkin has extensive experience coaching a quarterback with similar wheels, so who knows? Maybe there will be packages or even more for Green regardless of who wins the Browns’ QB competition, much to the potential chagrin of Mel Kiper Jr.
