Exclusive: Donna Kelce reveals what sons Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce have taught her

While we all learn a lot from our mothers, Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce have also taught their mom, Donna Kelce, an important life lesson.

When asked, one thing that sons have taught her over the years, she didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Perseverance. Through Jason and Travis, they taught me to never give up through the various struggles they’ve been able to overcome,” Donna shared exclusively with ClutchPoints at the Brooklyn GameChanger event earlier this month. “Jason didn’t get a scholarship out of high school to play in college, and Travis, with his issues in college, but they taught me to keep going.”

Not only did they prevail, but both Jason and Travis were able to get into the University of Cincinnati, where they were both on the roster for the football team. However, Travis tested positive for marijuana during his sophomore year in 2010 and was suspended for a year, which resulted in his athletic scholarship being rescinded. Jason advocated for him to get back on the team.

“When I got removed from the team I got my scholarship taken so I was staying with my brother, I was in his room and his house, kind of like two brothers growing up living in the same room,” Travis said per NBC back in 2023. “So in terms of rent I wasn’t paying rent, in terms of food he was helping me with food, so I was literally living off him for quite a while down there and he was my lifeline. I was trying to do the right things, and he went into the coaches’ office and talked to numerous coaches and numerous people in the Cincinnati staff to try to get me another chance to be on the team. I’m forever in debt to this guy for putting his name, our name, putting his honor on the line to get me another chance. When I say I owe it all to him, I really do.”

In the end, it all worked out for them as Jason was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011 and Travis, since Cincinnati reinstated him he was able to show off his skills as a tight end which led to the Kansas City Chiefs drafting him the following year. They also were able to make history as the first brother duo to play against one another in a Super Bowl. The Eagles faced the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 with the Chiefs winning 38-35. While the spotlight was on the brothers, Donna also went viral for her iconic jersey that featured both of her son’s jersey numbers.
