Even Patrick Mahomes was in awe of ‘unbelievable’ Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama after WCF Game 1 win

It’s no secret that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is an incredible player, as he showed in the team’s Game 1 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. Even Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes couldn’t believe what he was watching.

As the Game 1 showdown between the Spurs and the Thunder wound down, Mahomes wrote, “Wemby Man…. Unbelievable!” with a flexing bicep emoji on X, formerly Twitter.

Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, so he would know a thing or two about “unbelievable” plays. This was high praise coming from one of the best at his position to another.

Victor Wembanyama’s dominant 41-point performance in the Spurs’ Game 1 win vs. the Thunder

In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Wemby went off. He scored 41 points and had 24 rebounds. He was the team’s leading scorer by 17 points.

His play of the game came late in the first overtime period. The Spurs were down by three points, and Wembanyama hit a deep three-pointer to tie it up at 108.

In double overtime, the Spurs were able to pull away from the Thunder, outscoring them 14-7 in the last period. The Spurs now lead the WCF 1-0.

Game 1 was played in Oklahoma City, so San Antonio coming in and winning Game 1 was somewhat of an upset. After all, OKC was undefeated at home during the postseason and had swept their last two opponents (the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers).

The Thunder’s last loss at home was ironically against the Suns in the last regular season game of the year on Sunday, Apr. 12, 2026.

Wemby is coming off his third regular season in the NBA. He averaged a career-high 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Wembanyama also averaged 3.1 assists per game, the same number of blocks he averages.
