England v Australia Second Test LIVE: UK times, toss, scorecard and where to watch Gabba clash

England are already staring down the barrel of another Ashes Series defeat following their dismal performance in the first Test against Australia.

Travis Head scored the second-fastest century by an Aussie player in Ashes history as the hosts took a 1-0 lead after just two days.

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer impressed when bowling for England, but the visitors eventually fell to defeat by eight wickets after hitting just 336 runs across their two innings.

It was the first time since 1921 that an Ashes Test has ended within two days of play.

England know they have to drastically improve in the Second Test to level the series and keep their support onside.

They will travel to Brisbane in the hope of not letting the series slip away early on amid strong support from the home crowd in Australia.

And that won’t be easy at The Gabba, where England have not won since November 1986.

England v Australia: Date and how to follow second Test

The Second Test in this edition of The Ashes will run from Thursday, December 4 to Monday, December 8.

England fans are set for more early starts as play on each day is due to begin at 4am.

Brisbane Cricket Ground, also known as The Gabba, hosts the second Test in the Brisbane suburb of Woolloongabba.

It holds 37,000 spectators and is also dubbed as the Gabbatoir for England because in the long history of Ashes Tests, the tourists have won just four times.

TNT Sports have the TV rights for the Ashes thanks to their deal with Cricket Australia, and will show every ball on TNT and discovery+.

England vs Australia: What has been said?

Stokes says media criticism will not stop his England team from enjoying their time in Australia away from the playing field.

Following their heavy opening loss, England have spent their down time on the golf course and with trips to an aquarium.

Amid scrutiny, Stokes has said being able to ‘free your mind and enjoy yourself is one of the most important things’ for players when under pressure on tour.

He added: “If they think it is going to stop us enjoying this country when we have time off then it is not going to do that.

“Australia is the best country to tour away from cricket. There are so many things to do.

“You can go out and about and see things that only Australia has to offer, great golf courses, coffee shops and easy places to have lunch.

“We are human. We need to enjoy countries when we get the opportunity because we live in England where it is miserable, freezing cold and dark at 4pm.”

He added: “That could be quite a dangerous place to get your mind at.

“The reason why we go out there is to beat Australia. If you’re taking emotion in because you feel like you’re playing against the whole world, it’s taking your mind away from why you are actually out on that field.

“I guess that’s my mindset towards everything. Why do I train? Why do we choose to do things? If there’s actually a reason that’s for the benefit of what you’re doing, as opposed to external reasons, then that’s all good.

“I would never say use the motivation of all the scrutiny that’s coming our way because you’re then worrying about the things that don’t matter.”
