‘Drake Curse’ strikes again after rapper loses seven-figure sum following Seahawks’ Super Bowl win
The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl LX champions.
Sam Darnold and the Seahawks‘ ‘Dark Side’ defense inflicted a devastating 29-13 defeat on the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

But the Patriots may have well expected a loss after seeing who had placed a huge bet on them to win.
Five-time Grammy Award winner Drake shared he had placed a $1 million bet on quarterback Drake Maye and New England to win Super Bowl 60 just 24 hours ahead of the big game.
“Bet against me if you dare,” the singer shared when he uploaded proof on Instagram of the huge bet that he had placed.
He also revealed that he would have taken home an estimated $2,950,000 if the Patriots had gone on to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
That was Drake’s second L in back-to-back Super Bowls after being publicly dissed to millions by Kendrick Lamar during the Compton, California native’s halftime show set in 2025.
But the Canadian rapper has such a tethered history when it comes to sports betting that it has earned the notorious nickname of the ‘Drake Curse’.
This theory buys into the idea that whichever team Drake supports in a big event, such as that of the Super Bowl, NBA Finals or the NHL‘s Stanley Cup, that team ultimately winds up losing.
For example, the 39-year-old put a $1 million wager on the Kansas City Chiefs achieving a historic three-peat in Super Bowl LIX, though they wound up being dismantled by the Philadelphia Eagles.
He also reportedly put on another $1 million bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2025 Stanley Cup, but the championship ultimately went to the Florida Panthers.
‘Drake Curse’ has its own website
There’s even a website whose sole existence is dedicated to documenting Drake’s sports betting history over the years, after having pulled off some absolute stinkers over the last decade.
![TORONTO, ONTARIO – MAY 25: Rapper Drake attends game six of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena on May 25, 2019 in Toronto, Canada. According to the website, the “God’s Plan” rapper has won just 30 of 84 recorded bets, giving him a strike rate of 35.7 per cent.
Very aware of the outside noise, Drake addressed the whole conspiracy that he was a curse back in 2025.
“The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly. First of all, the Raptors won a championship, so nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse,” he said, referring to when his Toronto Raptors won the 2019 NBA championship – their first in franchise history.
“The Toronto Raptors are NBA Champions. If there was a Drake Curse, Kawhi [Leonard] would’ve never hit that shot, we would’ve never beat the Warriors. There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though.”
He did also, however, acknowledge that he is a “flawed sports bettor,” and added that it’s “not my gift.”
Perhaps it will be best to stick to making music, Drake.
