Donovan Mitchell bluntly shuts down fatigue concerns after Cavs’ Game 2 loss

The Cleveland Cavaliers have dug themselves a two-game hole on Thursday after falling to the New York Knicks, 109-93, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden.

The Cavaliers trailed by as much as 19 points, as the Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, asserted their might on both ends of the floor en route to their ninth straight victory.

Cleveland, which only shot 39% from the field, looked lackluster in the second half. But when asked if fatigue has become an issue for the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell did not bat an eyelash in his response.

“We’re not tired. We’re not tired. We’re ready to go for Game 3,” said Mitchell in the postgame conference.

He had a team-high 26 points and four rebounds in a losing effort. He went 8-of-18 from the floor. He is averaging 40 minutes against the Knicks.

James Harden added 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Jarrett Allen collected 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks.

The Cavaliers were coming off a painful defeat in Game 1, wherein they blew a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter. They looked gassed in overtime, making only one basket.

Before Game 2, Mitchell stressed that they have embraced every challenge in the playoffs.

“This group is great because we didn’t just come here to be like, ‘Hey!’ You know what I’m saying? But we built to that point, right? I think I don’t know what that’s like four years ago. If we get to the conference finals four years ago, are we just excited to be there? I don’t know,” said the seven-time All-Star.

The Cavaliers have a short time to rest before plunging back into action in Game 3 at Rocket Arena on Saturday.
