Dodgers’ Dave Roberts shares encouraging Tommy Edman injury update before Padres game
Los Angeles Dodgers versatile utility man Tommy Edman is continuing to recover from an ankle injury. The Dodgers are hopeful that Edman can return sooner rather than later. On Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts shared an update on Edman’s injury recovery ahead of the Dodgers’ game against the San Diego Padres, via David Vassegh.
“Dave Roberts said Tommy Edman is nearing a rehab assignment next week. Edman is taking more aggressive infield practice for the first time today and running the bases again,” Vassegh reported.
It seems as if Edman could indeed return soon barring any setbacks. If he is able to begin an injury rehab assignment next week, he could join the Dodgers not too long after. Of course, LA will proceed with patience. Nevertheless, the update on Wednesday is encouraging.
Edman, 31, has spent two seasons with the Dodgers. He has not appeared in more than 97 games in either campaign, however. With that being said, he still has made a significant impact while on the field.
In 2024, Edman won the NLCS MVP. He also gives Los Angeles crucial versatility given his ability to move around the field and play multiple positions.
The Dodgers will continue to monitor and provide updates on Tommy Edman’s injury status as they are made available.
The Dodgers and Padres are currently tied 1-1 in their three-game series. Los Angeles holds a half-game lead over San Diego for first place in the National League West standings at the moment. The winner of Wednesday’s game will be in first place in the division.
First pitch for the Dodgers and Padres clash in San Diego is scheduled for 8:40 PM EST.
