Dodgers’ Dave Roberts provides important Tommy Edman injury update before Braves game

The Los Angeles Dodgers lured in a new pitcher via the Chicago Cubs amid an MLB Injury. Yet manager Dave Roberts dropped a pivotal Tommy Edman update as Charlie Barnes comes over ahead of the Atlanta Braves showdown.

Is Edman on his way back sooner than expected? Unfortunately Roberts shared to reporters that Edman is enduring “a slow process” to return for LA as he still has soreness in his right ankle.

Video surfaced of Edman putting together some rehab work, though, before LA takes on Atlanta.

Edman sustained the lower leg ailment before the 2026 season. The multiple World Series champion hasn’t swung the bat at all for ’26.

Edman originally looked projected to return sometime in May, per Roberts back on April 11 via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. He’s placed on the 60-day injury list as of Saturday morning. That decision swings the door open for Barnes to earn time on the mound.

Barnes endured a unique journey to get to the champs. He started out as a 2017 MLB Draft pick out of Clemson. The Minnesota Twins originally swooped him up via the Amateur Draft. But he’s spent a bulk of his career in various minor league systems.

The Elizabethtown Twins and Cedar Rapids Kernels handed him his pro debut in Single-A action. He eventually moved on to High-A franchise the Fort Myers Miracle. He even missed the 2020 season as all Minor League teams halted play due to COVID-19.

The Detroit Tigers elevated him to their roster in July 2021. He later signed minor league deals with the Cincinnati Reds (Aug. 2025) and Cubs (Jan. 2026). Barnes isn’t just helping fill for Tommy Edman, but also Tyler Glasnow as he’s on IL too.
