‘Disappointed’ – EFL manager calls for immediate action with owners amid horror run

Watford boss Javi Gracia is planning to talk with owner Gino Pozzo ‘tonight’ after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Swansea.

The home defeat to the Welsh outfit means the Hornets are now winless in five in all competitions as second half goals from Marko Stamenic and Joshua Key saw Watford lose ground in the playoff race.

Nestory Irankunda’s late red card compounded a miserable afternoon for Gracia’s side.

The 55-year-old returned to the Vicarage Road dugout in October for his second stint in charge following Paulo Pezzolano’s exit.

Gracia first took over the Watford reins in January 2018 before leaving in September 2019.

‘I’m disappointed’

And in the wake of the dire home defeat to the Swans, Gracia has called for immediate action from the Watford owners.

“I’m really disappointed and I only want to speak with the owner, to feel and to know how they feel in this moment,” the Spaniard started.

“I’m really disappointed with the level of the team, the situation of the team and maybe the future of the team as well.

“It’s something I want to know and speak about.

“It’s about everything that is happening on the pitch, about what they think, about what they want and expect of the future. About everything.”

You Wat?

And when asked if he wanted discussions to take place “as soon as possible”, Gracia replied: “Yeah, tonight if I can.

“I think you have to do it as soon as possible. Today, if it’s possible. If it’s not possible then in one, two or three days, I don’t know when it will be possible.

“As soon as possible.”

Gracia revealed before the game against Swansea that the squad were in a “difficult moment” and after the game, admitted that those problems contributed to the poor response to going behind.

“I asked for the support of the fans and I’m grateful for the support today but I knew before the game that maybe this can happen,” Gracia added.

“We have players who are injured, players are gone, players are coming.

“Some players are playing with discomfort. The team we have in this moment is this and that’s what I can say.

“If you see the last results, it speaks about the team. There are some moments of the games where we compete well but we are not consistent enough to get the results that we want.”

Watford face a testing midweek trip to third-placed Hull next time out.

The Tigers claimed a fourth Championship win on the spin on Saturday as Lewis Koumas struck in the 81st minute on his debut as Hull secured a 1-0 win at Blackburn.
