DiJonai Carrington is next piece of Sky’s offseason overhaul

The Chicago Sky have had a busy offseason thus far in revamping their roster for the upcoming season, and their latest move was agreeing to a one-year free agency contract with DiJonai Carrington, as per Alexa Philippou of ESPN.

DiJonai Carrington’s free agency signing with the Sky comes on the heels of the team making a few other major offseason roster moves including signing All-Star point guard Skylar Diggins, re-signing veteran Courtney Vandersloot and trading Ariel Atkins to the Los Angeles Sparks for Rickea Jackson.

Carrington joins the Sky after finishing out last season with the Minnesota Lynx. She had started the 2025 season with the Dallas Wings, but was acquired by the Lynx at the trade deadline.

She appeared in 11 games for the Lynx, including one start, at a little over 16 minutes per game. She averaged 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 steals with splits of 48.5 percent shooting from the field, 45.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 76 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft, Carrington began her career with the Connecticut Sun. She played for the Sun for the first four seasons of her career before being traded to the Wings. Carrington has developed into one of the league’s best defensive players and in 2024 she was selected to her first All-Defensive Team and finished fourth in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

This past season, the Sky finished with an overall record of 10-34 and missed out on the playoffs for the second consecutive season. It was also the first under new head coach Tyler Marsh.
