Darts cult hero jeered by fans for shock Christmas reveal after suffering hilarious wardrobe malfunction

Ricky Evans went from hero to zero at Alexandra Palace on Friday night after his first-round win at the World Darts Championship.

Evans beat Man Lok Leung 3-0 in his opening outing of the tournament and he did it all while lifting the Christmas spirit.

At least until speaking in his post-match interview, when he appeared to be taken over by the Grinch and had fans turn on him.

The fast-throwing cult hero created an incredible atmosphere inside Ally Pally when he first arrived for the game, walking out to ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by Shakin’ Stevens.

And to make things better, he appeared in some incredible festive clothing, donning Christmas tree glasses and a Christmas tree hat.

He also wore a Christmas-themed, customised shirt and trousers for the match against Lok Leung at the World Championship.

But it was the trousers that would lead to an iconic moment at the event on Friday, due to a hilarious wardrobe malfunction.

Straight after Evans secured his 3-0 victory, he stepped forward to grab his darts out of the board and celebrated.

However, as he did so, one dropped to the ground, and when reaching down to grab it, his trousers ripped.

Evans looked up at referee Huw Ware and presumably asked him whether he had just ripped them, with Ware reacting in shock.

The 35-year-old then realised what had happened and he turned to the crowd red-faced before having it mentioned in his interview.

After the interviewer brought it up at the start of their chat, Evans decided to turn to the crowd and show off his rip while laughing.

The darts star who stole Christmas

After the wardrobe malfunction, Evans had everyone in the crowd laughing, but that soon changed.

In his interview, ‘Rapid Ricky’ shockingly revealed that he doesn’t like Christmas, despite his very festive outfit.

He said in a unique rant on stage: “Christmas is rubbish. It is.

“Right, hands up if you like gravy? Hands up if you like meat and gravy? Hands up if you think gravy is the devil? Gravy is the devil, I hate it. If you go to a chicken shop, you do not order gravy.”

As he was speaking, fans inside Alexandra Palace jeered and booed Evans, reacting to his anti-Christmas comments.

Of course, it was all light-hearted and he left the stage to applause after an entertaining performance in-game and afterwards.

‘These will be going in the bin’

Evans joined talkSPORT post-match and discussed exactly what happened with his trousers whilst he was celebrating.

“I’ve ripped my kecks, haven’t I!” Evans said to talkSPORT at Ally Pally. “I’ve only gone and pumped too hard, haven’t I?”

He added: “I’d done a few interviews when I got here earlier, I sat down and all I heard was a rip…there was a little hole.

“And now I’ve won the game and I’ve ripped them, so now these will be going in the bin basically.”

“I can’t wait to get an Uber home now and the drivers’ going to be looking at me and thinking what are you doing,” he later joked.
