Dane Brugler reveals where Brendan Sorsby would have been selected in 2026 NFL Draft

The 2027 NFL Draft will not feature Brendan Sorsby after he opted for the supplemental draft Monday. The quarterback Sorsby makes the decision without throwing a single regular season pass with Texas Tech, but amid his gambling scandal. Yet would Sorsby have landed high in the 2026 draft class?

NFL draft expert for The Athletic Dane Brugler weighed in on the dual-threat passer’s prospects. He saw potential in Sorsby, but didn’t hail him as first round material.

“Nothing has changed in terms of his on-field evaluation — Sorsby is the most talented quarterback prospect to enter the supplemental draft in over 30 years,” Brugler said via his Athletic colleague Bruce Feldman.

Yet the two-game gambling suspension and the fierce scrutiny that came after complicates things for Sorsby. Had he entered in this past April’s draft, Brugler believed the controversial quarterback would’ve landed somewhere during the second day.

“But obviously, his off-field situation is very serious and complicates his NFL projection,” Brugler said. “After talking with teams, best guess is a team uses a Day 3 pick on Sorsby.”

That means someone could take him with a fourth round value at the highest. Brugler isn’t the only one who called Sorsby a day three selection at best. ESPN NFL analyst and former QB Dan Orlovsky predicted Sorsby would be worth a fourth rounder.

The debate sparks on which team would welcome in the embattled passer. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the quarterback-needy Arizona Cardinals rise as two possibilities. But the Cleveland Browns appear to be out of the running already.
