Cincinnati football clap back at Brendan Sorsby’s gambling knowledge accusation
As the Cincinnati football program once had Brendan Sorsby on the team before transferring to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, it seems like there is unfinished business. After Sorsby’s agent accused the Cincinnati football team of turning a blind eye to the player’s gambling activities, the school fired back.
Starting with what Sorsby’s agent, Ron Slavin, said to 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, he would address how Texas Tech had been taking heat for defending Sorsby, who is no longer with the school. Instead, Slavin said that the blame should be on the Cincinnati Bearcats, as he said the school “knew for two years” about the abundance of gambling that Sorsby had been doing and “didn’t do anything about it.”
“If anybody should be questioned or catching heat, it should be Cincinnati. Because they knew for two years and never said anything or didn’t do anything about it. That’s the part of the story that gets lost,” Slavin said, via On3 Sports.

Let’s just say that the comments from Sorsby’s agent pinched a never, as Cincinnati came back in a statement to On3 Sports reporter Pete Nakos in denying that the school knew anything regarding the quarterback’s gambling habits.
“We will reiterate what we have said before,” Cincinnati said via On3’s Pete Nakos. “All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations. If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions.”
At any rate, Sorsby’s days when it comes to playing college football are apparently over, as while there was an attempt to return to Texas Tech, back-and-forth bickering from the NCAA and a judge’s ruling could’ve had a toll on the quarterback.
Instead, Sorsby will enter the NFL supplemental draft, where he could get a fresh start at the professional level, as it remains to be seen how teams will look at his gambling history.
