The second day of the Cheltenham Festival is highlighted by the Champion Chase, but there are some ultra competitive graded races and handicaps to go at, too, on what promises to be another great day at Prestbury Park.

Cheltenham Festival day two picks
14:40 Cheltenham – Storm Heart @ 6/1
The BetMGM Cup is always one of the most hotly contested races of the entire four-day festival but STORM HEART looks to have plenty going for him in this two-mile five-furlong event.
Storm Heart kept the highest company as a juvenile and looks to have come of age this term, with victories at Limerick in December on his return and then in the Grade 3 Red Mills Hurdle at Gowran last month. On the latter occasion he deserved extra credit having conceded first run but he knuckled down in fine style to win going away.
This return to a much longer trip looks ideal and he can provide trainer Willie Mullins with another victory in this event after he bagged the prize 12 months ago with Jimmy Du Seuil.
Dan Skelton took this handicap twice with the remarkable Langer Dan and his mare, Kateira, who looks like she has been laid out for this all season, could emerge as the main danger.
16:40 Cheltenham Release The Beast @ 9/1
A feature of the Grand Annual Chase is that it is usually one of the most strongly-run races of the four-day meeting and RELEASE THE BEAST promises to be ideally suited by the demands of this two-mile handicap chase.
Paul Nolan’s seven-year-old remains relatively lightly raced since going in on his chasing debut at Limerick in late 2024.
But his two runner-up efforts this term have been highly promising, most recently in a hotly-contested two-mile one-furlong handicap at Leopardstown last month, where he stayed on well late on having been forced to switch for a run on the home turn.
Expect him to come with a telling late charge up Cheltenham’s famed uphill finish.
14:00 Cheltenham – Wendigo @ 7/1
The Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase over three miles and one furlong always provides a really searching test of stamina for novice chasers and this year’s renewal, its biggest for many years, promises to be no exception.
Gordon Elliott’s Romeo Coolio is likely to go off favourite having bypassed Tuesday’s Arkle for this event, but the unbeaten chaser could find his stamina reserves running out late in the day and WENDIGO can take full advantage.
Jamie Snowden’s likeable seven-year-old came home fifth in the three-mile Albert Bartlett at the Festival 12 months ago when suffering a poor run.
But this useful hurdler has always looked a fine staying chaser in the making and announced himself on that stage when winning a hotly-contested Grade 2 event at Newbury in November.
An excellent third in Kempton’s Kauto Star Chase on Boxing Day followed, where he was a little outpaced on that much sharper track.
He completed his prep for this event when easily winning a three-runner race at Ayr in January and this sound jumper should relish the extreme test the Brown Advisory presents.
