Chelsea told to make audacious swoop for Harry Kane after change in transfer policy

Chelsea have been told they could be the ‘perfect’ move for Harry Kane amid their shift in transfer strategy.

The Blues are pushing to bolster their squad with experienced Premier League veterans ahead of the new season.

Xabi Alonso’s side are currently working on deals for both Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, talkSPORT understands.

Chelsea lead the race to sign Henderson on a free transfer from Brentford.

Meanwhile, Brighton striker Welbeck has already agreed personal terms with the club.

Kane has now been put forward as a potential signing after entering the final 12 months of his current Bayern Munich deal.

Chelsea ‘perfect’ for Kane

Andy Goldstein and Andy Townsend discussed a possible move to Stamford Bridge during Tuesday’s Breakfast show.

Asked if Chelsea would be the ‘perfect’ move for Kane due to their new strategy, Townsend explained: “If his contract is up, they’re going to have to renegotiate now.

“They wouldn’t want to let Harry leave for nothing because he would still have a serious transfer fee attached to him.

“Look, it’s an interesting one with Harry, he is such a consistent goalscorer. What he’s done in Munich is pretty remarkable, really.

“He’s put himself on the same level as (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi when he’s getting 60 and 70 (goals) in a season. That’s incredible.

“So who wouldn’t be interested in taking Harry Kane at the moment?”

Kane’s record scoring form

Since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for the club.

Those include 61 strikes in all competitions last season as he won a third consecutive Bundesliga golden boot.

The England captain, who turned 33 on Tuesday, also scored six times at the World Cup to extend his record tally for the Three Lions to 85 goals in 121 caps.

Kane also remains the Premier League’s second-highest scorer of all-time behind Alan Shearer with 213 goals in 320 appearances.

As for whether a move to Chelsea would work for all parties, Townsend added: “The thing with Harry, unlike Danny Welbeck is coming to Chelsea knowing that he’s going to play but he’s not going to play every week.

“Harry wants to play every week. He would expect to start absolutely every game.”

Chelsea striker latest

Welbeck’s potential move to Chelsea would bolster the club’s striker options but may not be the last centre-forward signing they make this summer.

Joao Pedro is the only current senior striker at Stamford Bridge without any uncertainty surrounding his future.

Chelsea are open to offers for both Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha, who only joined the club from Strasbourg this summer.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Jackson was previously offered to Aston Villa following his return from a season-long loan at Bayern.

Marc Guiu has also been linked with a move away from the Blues this summer.

Fellow striker David Datro Fofana has made just four first-team appearances since joining Chelsea in January 2023 and is fresh from a fifth loan spell away from west London.
