Cavaliers star Evan Mobley’s mother RTs Donovan Mitchell diss after Game 6 loss
The Cleveland Cavaliers are now headed to Game 7 after a 112-110 overtime loss in Game 6 against Toronto Raptors on Friday night at Scotiabank, a defeat that tied the first-round playoff series 3-3 and forced a winner-takes-all matchup in Cleveland on Sunday.
Amid the growing pressure, off-court attention has also surfaced following a cryptic social media action from Evan Mobley’s mother, Nicol, who reshared a now-deleted post on X featuring former Cavaliers forward Channing Frye criticizing Donovan Mitchell’s ability to lead the team.
The former NBA big man questioned Donovan Mitchell’s aggressiveness in a clip from The Road Trippin’ Show, where he serves as a co-host, during a conversation with Kendrick Perkins, suggesting Mitchell has not taken enough initiative to lead Cleveland in its series against Toronto.
“I don’t think how Donovan Mitchell plays basketball is a recipe for success,” Frye asserted. “Him taking a backseat in this series is absolutely necessary… When has he shown you he can win past the 2nd round?”

Mitchell’s recent efficiency has been a concern, as over the last four games he has averaged 19.5 points on 37.3% shooting, including 29.4% from three-point range, along with 3.0 turnovers per game. His early-series scoring outburst included back-to-back 30-point performances in the Cavaliers’ initial 2-0 lead before his production dipped.
What looked like a Cleveland turnaround fell apart late in Game 6. The Cavaliers had rallied from a 15-point deficit, regained momentum in the fourth quarter, and even led 110-109 in overtime with under 30 seconds remaining. However, the Raptors pounced after Dennis Schroder’s pass intended for Evan Mobley was poked loose, leading to RJ Barrett’s game-winning three-pointer with just over a second left. The shot, which bounced high off the rim before dropping in, gave Toronto the win.
Mobley finished with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting, 14 rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while also hitting multiple clutch baskets late in regulation. Mitchell added 24 points on 26 shots, along with five rebounds, two assists, and three turnovers. James Harden contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and four turnovers in 44 minutes.
Meanwhile, Toronto was led by Scottie Barnes 25 points and 14 assists, while Barrett and Ja’Kobe Walter each had 24 points.
With the series now level, Cleveland returns home for Game 7, where their season will be decided.
