Caris LeVert reveals Pistons’ lapses that led to Donovan Mitchell’s historic game

The Detroit Pistons have some riddles to solve as they fly back home for Game 5 of their second-round series in the playoffs versus the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers outclassed the Pistons, 112-103, in Game 4 at Rocket Arena on Monday to tie their best-of-seven matchup at 2-2.

Donovan Mitchell was sensational in the second half, scoring 39 of his game-high 43 points. It was his eighth 40-point game in the playoffs, adding to his growing list of big-time performances.

Caris LeVert admitted that they should have been more aggressive in making everything difficult for Mitchell.

“Defensively, we let Mitchell off the hook a little bit. We let him get to his right hand a little too much,” said LeVert in the video posted by The Detroit News’ Coty Davis.

Mitchell shot 13-of-26 from the field, including 8-of-9 in the third quarter.

With Cade Cunningham struggling from the field, LeVert stepped up for the Pistons. He scored a team-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting in 31 minutes off the bench.

He added that they also have to iron out some creases in their offense.

“We just gotta move the ball a little bit better, get into our sets a little bit quicker. They did a good job in picking Deuce (Cunningham) up full court. It kind of slowed down our offense. We just gotta be better at combating that,” said LeVert, who also had four rebounds and three assists.

Jalen Duren was the missing link in Game 4, scoring just eight points on eight shots.

Game 5 returns to Detroit on Wednesday.
