Cardinals’ Alec Burleson homers right into the Tarps Off section

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Alec Burleson (and elder statesman) gave the people what they wanted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning of a series-opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Burleson smacked a 96 mph pitch from Pirates right-handed relief pitcher Brandan Bidois for a solo home run that extended the Cardinals’ lead to two runs, 6-4.

What made that moment even better was the fact that the ball nearly landed right into the Tarps Off section.

Here is a video of Burleson’s home run and the long ball landing in front of rowdy and shirtless Cardinals supporters.

Needless to say, fans have wild reactions to that home run and the Tarps Off crowd celly.

“The Tarps may never be back on,” a fan said.

“Burleson delivering exactly what the fans wanted – that Tarps Off reaction makes baseball special. Great power moment,” a social media user on X shared.

“Big play from Alec again, tonight’s hero for me,” another one commented.

“Tarps Off got their money’s worth 😂 Perfect timing!,” a different fan said.

“We are really the best distraction in the league 🤣🏴‍☠️,” another comment read.

The Cardinals’ Tarps Off trend has taken over baseball, and it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, especially given the boost it gives St. Louis. The Cardinals entered the Pirates series coming off a 2-o loss in a series finale at home against the Kansas City Royals, but they have won three of their last four outings and six of their previous 10.

For Burleson, it’s his seventh home run in the 2026 MLB season and 55th of his career.
