Canelo Alvarez vs Christian Mbilli: Date, venue and where to watch world title fight

Canelo Alvarez will make his highly anticipated return to the ring on Mexican Independence Day weekend against Christian Mbilli.

The 35-year-old hasn’t set foot in the ring since his unanimous decision defeat to Terence Crawford last September.

Alvarez dropped his undisputed super middleweight titles in the process, but has now been handed the opportunity to regain one of his four belts against WBC champion Mbilli.

The Frenchman was elevated from interim to full world champion in January after the WBC stripped Crawford for unpaid sanctioning fees.

Mbilli picked up the secondary title by blowing away Poland’s Maciej Sulecki in a round last June.

He was then held to a draw by Lester Martinez in a Fight of the Year contender on the Alvarez vs Crawford undercard.

And will now test his skills against the face of boxing.

Alvarez and Mbilli are set to collide on September 12 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The pair will headline a Ring Magazine card billed as ‘Mexico vs The World’, showcasing the country’s best talent.

DAZN will be broadcasting the fight live on pay-per-view.
