Canadiens’ Martin St. Louis sounds off on fans’ behavior in Game 4 vs. Hurricanes
The Montreal Canadiens could not pick up a win on Wednesday night. As a result, they are one win away from being eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals. Montreal had home ice advantage, but the advantage was quickly sapped when fans began booing the team for its poor effort.
Frustration among Canadiens fans is certainly understandable. The Canadiens have lost four straight postseason games on home ice. They have also been held to fewer than 20 shots on goal in each of their last three games, as well. Even coach Martin St. Louis couldn’t blame the fans for their decision to boo the team.
“The game’s going to humble you; whenever you get humbled, you stand tall. It’s not fun to hear that but they’re not wrong,” the Canadiens bench boss said, via team reporter Priyanta Emrith.
Jakub Dobes made a big save early in the game to keep Carolina at bay for most of the early going. However, the Hurricanes finally found a way through the Montreal wall in goal. Sebastian Aho got the party started in Game 4, and Carolina went on to win by a score of 4-0.
This series is not over quite yet. It’s entirely possible the Canadiens dig deep and find a way to bounce back. At the same time, they need to make significant changes to their on-ice approach if they want this to happen.
Montreal will hit the road for Game 5, and they have played well on the road. The Canadiens will need to continue that trend Friday night if they want to keep their season alive.
