Caitlin Clark makes brutally honest confession after Fever allow 21 Breanna Stewart FTs
The Indiana Fever did not have a good showing in their latest defeat. Indiana lost 83-75 against New York in a game where superstar Breanna Stewart ran wild. One Fever player made a brave confession after that crushing loss.
Caitlin Clark did not make any excuses after the Liberty dominated the Fever at the free throw line on Saturday.
“We fouled,” Clark said, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. “Honestly, we guarded Stewie pretty well, and we guarded them pretty well from the 3-point line. It’s just when you give somebody 21 free throws, it makes things really difficult.”
New York went to the charity stripe a whopping 40 times, compared to just 15 trips to the line for Indiana. The Fever’s foul trouble made a huge difference in this close game.
Stewy was the best example of where things went wrong for the Fever. Stewart scores 30 points with eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals against Indiana. Of those 30 points, 18 of them came from Stewart’s 21 trips to the free throw line.
Meanwhile, Clark had a comparatively quite evening. She logged 10 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists in 34 minutes on the court. But the Fever stayed in the game thanks to 21 points from Kelsey Mitchell and 15 points from Monique Billings.
The Fever are now 5-5 on the season and are 1-1 in Commissioner’s Cup games. If they cannot find a way to start stacking some wins. Indiana may not make it back to the Commissioner’s Cup this season.
Hopefully head coach Stephanie White can rally the troops ahead of Indiana’s next big game.
Next up for the Fever is a road game against the Mystics on June 8th at 7PM ET.
