Burnley set to be snubbed by top target to replace Scott Parker

Craig Bellamy is reluctant to quit Wales to become Burnley’s new manager, talkSPORT understands.

Bellamy is one of Burnley’s top targets to replace Scott Parker but is committed to leading Wales at a home Euros in 2028.

The Wales boss coached at Burnley under former boss Vincent Kompany and was among the candidates to take the job prior to Parker’s appointment two years ago.

Burnley have yet to make a formal approach for Bellamy.

The Clarets know that they would have to pay a release clause in the region of £700,000 to get him out of his contract with the Football Association of Wales.

But Bellamy’s stance is likely to be a firm one meaning Burnley will have to look elsewhere for Parker’s successor.

Steven Gerrard has also been heavily-linked with the newly-vacant job at Turf Moor.

The Liverpool legend is open to a Championship job having been out of work since leaving Al Ettifaq in January 2025.

Ex-Rangers and Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard have been linked with the vacant post atTurf Moor.

As has Brian Barry-Murphy who led Cardiff to promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Burnley have four Premier League games remaining before attention starts to turn to next season’s Championship campaign.

Assistant manager Michael Jackson will take charge of the final matches starting with Friday’s night’s trip to Leeds.

They then face fixtures against Aston Villa and Arsenal before facing fellow relegated outfit Wolves on the final day.
